I'm just an midpoint Joe that started smoking when I was about 14 and kept it up until I was about 44.
When I stopped I was smoking 2 packs of Pall Mall unfiltered a day and I had promised myself that I would stop if and when I had to pay a pack. At this time they were about 75 cents per and they were talking about another tax hike, so I started looking at quitting seriously.
I felt that it was going to be real hard because I also drank and I had smoking connected with all things that I did in life. Drink a beer and smoke 2 or 3, eat a meal smoke 1, drink a cup of coffee smoke 2 or 3, You get the picture and probably do the same thing. I was right! It was hard, but not as hard as I had myself convinced that it was going to be. Back many years ago I read a record that said if you want to stop or convert a behavior, Set Your Mind To It. This Works!
The way this is applied to smoking is as follows;
Use unavoidable affirmations like "I Don't Smoke, I Don't Like Smoking, I Don't Like the Smell" etc. We give ourselves an out when we say "I'm going to quit or I don't indubitably mind it but I know I should quit", etc. Continue this for no less than 21 days. Make you a list of those affirmations and carry them with you if necessary. Tell yourself these affirmation all the time and especially when you get the urge to light up. When you just can't stand it and have to light up, just take 3 or 4 drags then put it out but save the butt and relight it the next time. This strengthens the "Don't Like" affirmations. Put off lighting up for as long as you can. You will see the time will lengthen in the middle of smokes. Set a goal to when you will stop altogether. [I stopped at the end of the pack I started when I began and straight through the empty pack away to never pick up another smoke since then.]
Finally as I stated above, supervene this common at least 21 days and 1 of 2 things will happen.
you will stop smoking.
you will stop telling yourself that "You Don't Smoke" because your mind will not let you continue to lie to it.
After you have stopped you will need to fight the urges with gum chewing or tooth picks or something, but it isn't that hard anymore and you can do it just like me. If this doesn't work for you check out my website for a something that is guaranteed to work.
